Absentee Ballots Available - June 5, 2012 Primary

Absentee Ballots

Absentee ballots for the June 5, 2012 Primary Election are now available. A registered voter may cast an absentee ballot by going to the County Auditor’s Office in the Courthouse through Monday, June 4, 2012. Courthouse hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 A.M. to 4:30 P.M. In addition to the regular courthouse hours, the Auditor's office will be open for absentee voting on Saturday, May 26th from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M. and on Saturday, June 2nd from 8:00 A.M. until 5:00 P.M.

Iowa has two political parties hold Primary Elections: the Democratic Party and the Republican Party. At the primary election, there is a Democratic ballot and a Republican ballot. Candidates from each party run against candidates from the same party. The winners from each party will have their names placed on the general election ballot.

Iowa’s primary election is a “closed primary” which means that voters must declare a party affiliation on their application to receive an absentee ballot for this election.

Offices with candidates for nomination on the Primary ballot are as follows: United States Representative - First District; State Senator Thirty-sixth District; State Representative – Seventy-first and Seventy-second Districts. There will also be nominated candidates for the following County Offices: One member to the County Board of Supervisors; County Auditor and Recorder; and County Sheriff.

Voters can request that an Absentee Ballot be mailed to them by filling out the “Official Iowa Absentee Ballot Request Form.” Forms are available at the County Auditor’s office or from the Marshall County web site at www.co.marshall.ia.us . Requests from voters to have an absentee ballot mailed to them must be complete and received by the Marshall County Auditor no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, June 1st.

Those voters who wish to vote in the Primary Election, but through illness, physical disability, or who will be absent on Election Day, are urged to cast an absentee ballot.

Voters may contact the Marshall County Election Department at (641)754-6302 for more information regarding Absentee Voting or other election information.

I am a Republican because...

I BELIEVE the strength of our nation lies with the individual and that each person’s dignity, freedom, ability and responsibility must be honored.

I BELIEVE in equal rights, equal justice and equal opportunity for all, regardless of race, creed, sex, age or disability.

I BELIEVE free enterprise and encouraging individual initiative have brought this nation opportunity, economic growth and prosperity.

I BELIEVE government must practice fiscal responsibility and allow individuals to keep more of the money they earn.

I BELIEVE the proper role of government is to provide for the people only those critical functions that cannot be performed by individuals or private organizations, and that the best government is that which governs least.

I BELIEVE the most effective, responsible and responsive government is government closest to the people.

I BELIEVE Americans must retain the principles that have made us strong while developing new and innovative ideas to meet the challenges of changing times.

I BELIEVE Americans value and should preserve our national strength and pride while working to extend peace, freedom and human rights throughout the world.

FINALLY, I believe the Republican Party is the best vehicle for translating these ideals into positive and successful principles of government.
